It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry & their responsibilities as an operator

  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used

  • Be able to locate& identify the major components of the machine 7 explain their function

  • Be able to locate & identify key controls& explain their function

  • Set up an exclusion zone

  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s &legislative requirements

  • Identify & maintain PPE appropriate for agricultural tractor use

  • Prepare the agricultural tractor for use

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at  the work area

  • Attach and set trailers, mounted & PTO drives ready for operation

  • Operate machinery safely & efficiently

  • Environmental considerations

  • Storage & transport of implements & attachments

  • Demonstrate knowledge & understanding of loading & unloading procedures for machine transportation

  • Carry out end of shift & shut down procedures

It is envisaged that at the end of the course of training the trainee will be able to answer questions on and preform the following:

  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their function

  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their function

  • Conduct all pre-operative checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements

  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for forward dumper use

  • Prepare the forward tipping dumper for use and operate safely and efficiently

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks in the work area

  • Attach and set trailers ready for operation

  • Environmental considerations

  • Storage and transport of implements and attachments

  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area

  • Prepare the loading shovel for use , operate machinery safely and efficiently

  • Environmental considerations

  • Storage and transport of implements and attachments

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation

  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

It is envisaged that at the end of the training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator

  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer handbook of the particular machine to be used

  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their function

  • Be able to locate and identify  steering, driving and braking controls & explain their functions

  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for excavator use

  • Conduct all pre-operative checks in accordance with the manufacturer and legislative requirements

  • Safely mount and dismount the machine

  • Start and stop the machine and safely move the machine off & stop safely

  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre across varying terrain in open and confined areas

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks in the work area

  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out excavation tasks

  • Carry out excavating tasks

  • Load materials onto transporting vehicles or into containers

  • Reinstate excavation, grade and level ground

  • Fit and remove attachments

  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

  • Conduct all necessary checks in the work area

  • Prepare the forwards tipping dumper for use and operate safely and efficiently

  • Attachments set  correctly ready for operation

  • Environmental consideration

  • Storage and transport of forward tipping mini dumper/ implements /attachments

  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

  • Be able to explain the different types of quick hitch devices

  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the designated change over area

  • Fit and remove attachments safely and efficiently

  • Demonstrate and explain checks for attachment security

  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

  • Configure the machine for travel & manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined spaces

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area

  • Manoeuvre  the machine to the work area & correctly configure in order to carry out excavating tasks

  • Carry out excavating tasks

  • Load materials onto transporting vehicles or into containers

  • Reinstate excavation, grade and level ground

  • Fit and remove attachments
