FOR THE NOVICE, THE EXPERIENCED AND TO ASSESSMENT

It is envisaged that by the end of the course the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry , the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator

  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and be familiar with the other sources of information available including relevant legislation

  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine & explain their functions

  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions

  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s & legislative requirements

  • Identify & maintain PPE appropriate for cutting or grinding machine

  • Select suitable type of abrasive wheel & machine relative to the work being undertaken

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work are & set up safety zone

  • Prepare the machine for use &operate machinery safely and efficiently

  • Environmental considerations

  • Storage & transport of abrasive wheel machine

  • Carry out end of shift & shut down procedures

It is envisaged that by the end of the course of training the trainee operator will

Be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operative

  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular equipment to be used & be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation

  • Be able to locate & explain the controls of the equipment and explain their functions

  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s & legislative requirements

  • Configure the equipment for use

  • Define underground services

  • Know how to identify different types of underground services

  • Identify risks that underground services may present and how people may be affected by them

  • Causes of accidents by underground services

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area

  • Carry out detection tasks

  • Identify the risks of excavating near to underground services and the safe digging  that should Be adopted

  • Carry out all end of shift sand shut down procedures
